What Airmiles did not make clear is that if you dont fly with BA/Iberia from one of the Main 6 Airports then the change means you must pay full taxes and Surcharges, you wont be able to get the Reward Saver fare.Regional supplement Scrapped

Press Release 5th September 2011

Good morning from “Fight The Airmiles Change”. We are reaching out to the 2.2 million people who collect Airmiles from Tesco, Shell, LLoydsTSB and the other partners of the Airmiles programme.

On 1st September, Airmiles announced changes to their loyalty scheme, via email and the press. As yet paper mail has not arrived so many customers are unaware of the changes. These people are already at a disagvantage as email users have rushed to cash in their airmiles availability is already limited.

This is the reality.

Free flights have never actually been ‘free’ we pay for them through our purchases from Airmiles Partners. They were only ever free at the point of purchase.

Under the current Airmiles scheme
£1 spend in Tesco will earn you 2 points To get 1 Tesco Club Card voucher with a value of £2.50 you have to spend £125.00 The £2.50 voucher is equal to 50 Airmiles therefore 1 Airmile is equal to 5p face Value

A flight to New York costs 5000 Airmiles (50,000 Avios in new terms) You need 100 Tesco Club Card vouchers (£250.00 face value) to pay for this flight. A flight via a price comparison website cost approx £420 so this is good value.

Under the new scheme Airmiles will be changed to Avios on a ration 1:10 (so 1 Airmile is 10 Avios) A flight to New York will cost 40,000 Avios, You need 80 Tesco Club Card vouchers (£200.00 face value) to buy 40,000 Avios. In addition to this you have to pay all taxes and surcharges, these are approx £300. This flight will cost you £500.00, this is not good value. This is a big increase! On some flights Airmiles to Avios will see 90% devaluation.

This is not what we expect from a much trusted brand.

We continue to raise awareness of these changes with the Airmiles Partners and Government organisations. Yesterday our website www.fighttheairmileschange.co.uk had 846 hits on its first day live. Over the next few days we are hoping to include stories from Fair Milers who have been impacted by these changes. There are now 428 Fair Milers on our Facebook page ‘Fight The Airmiles Change’ and we are busy giving them as much help and real information as we can.

Let the wave grow!
